This month for our Women in Technology, we are spotlighting Amber, one of our MDM Service Agents! Read about her story and how she started in technology.
I was looking for a change from my pediatric dental office management role. I was fortunate to have connections within Dataprise, who spoke very highly of their workplace culture. Encouraged by their recommendations, I pursued a position when the opportunity arose, ultimately securing a role within the organization.
I had never thought about it as an option. I was on a different career path. But as I learned more and its potential to shape the future, I became drawn to technology.
June will be my 1-year work anniversary with Dataprise.
There are five of us on our Mobile Device Management, or MDM, team. Together, we help architect and design client instances within Intune/AirWatch/MaaS360. We field client requests to create new profiles, add applications, wipe devices, help end users with enrolling their devices, troubleshooting issues with email, apps, locate lost or stolen devices, and maintenance of each environment. I also help with project-based work, such as helping architect a customer’s Intune environment.
Mentorship is key to success. Seek out individuals who are willing to offer guidance and support and be transparent about your strengths and areas of growth. Remember that the goal is to contribute to the mission, so prioritize honesty and open communication within your team. Don’t hesitate to ask questions or seek clarification – confidence comes from understanding that you’re not going to know everything all at once. Avoid the trap of comparing yourself to others, as mastery in tech is built over time through continuous learning and experience. Above all, keep the mission at the forefront of your efforts and approach each challenge with a growth mindset and determination to succeed. I wish I had understood the importance of networking and seeking out mentors earlier in my career would have been beneficial.
It’s important for women to join the tech industry because women bring unique perspectives and solutions. Women also make up a good portion of tech users, and having more women in tech development can lead to more user-friendly designs. I think the broader community can support women in tech by providing mentorship programs, networking opportunities, and access to resources, such as scholarships and workshops.
One of the best parts of being a woman in the tech industry is the opportunity to challenge stereotypes and inspire change. By actively participating in a field traditionally dominated by men, I’m not only breaking barriers for myself but also setting an example for my two daughters. Every achievement and milestone reached serves as a reminder to them that gender should never limit one’s aspirations or potential. I hope to instill in them the belief that they can pursue any career path they desire and succeed on their own terms, regardless of societal expectations or biases.
Personally, I like a challenge, and working with my MDM team has pushed me to further challenge myself. I work with very smart people and enjoy being around people who I can learn from and look up to.
Approach constructive criticism as an opportunity for growth, recognizing that each mistake presents a valuable learning experience. When receiving that feedback on areas for improvement, interpret it as a demonstration of genuine concern and belief in your potential. Maintaining a positive mindset fosters continuous development, as we all have the capacity to enhance our skills and capabilities.
I see myself continuing to learn from the best, improving my MDM skills, and advancing my career within Dataprise.
