This month for our Women in Technology, we are spotlighting Erin R., one of our HR Business Partners! Read about her story and how she started in technology.

Tell us your story on how you got into technology.

Living in Denver, there’s a lot of career opportunities in the tech space and I wanted to be a part of a growing industry.

Did you always know that working in technology was what you wanted to do?

Not at all! I have a hospitality background and am very passionate about fine dining. I started my career as a pastry chef in Aspen, Colorado.

How long have you been with Dataprise?

Three years.

What advice would you give to women considering a career in the tech industry? What do you wish you had known?

It is a very fast-paced industry. For HR professionals specifically, you need to be prepared to wear many hats. On any given day, you may need to deliver training, configure benefit plans, help a manager plan for someone’s promotion, produce and interpret reports, prepare for an acquisition, educate yourself on a new state employment law, help someone plan for their maternity leave – the list is endless and there’s never a dull moment.

Why do you think it’s important for more women to join the tech industry? How can the broader community support women in tech?

When new ideas and perspectives are brought to the table (and welcomed), everyone wins. The broader community can further support women in tech by trying not to judge others based on their appearance.

What is it that you enjoy most about your current job at Dataprise?

What I enjoy most about my role at Dataprise is that I’ve been able to get involved in so many different initiatives, and my days are filled with a lot of variety.

What is the best professional advice you’ve ever received?

Network, find a mentor, and figure out a way to stay connected with others in your profession. Joining an HR network has been valuable for me and it’s how I stay connected with my peers. I have found that many HR/People teams, regardless of industry, are often working through the same sorts of challenges!

Where do you see yourself going from here?

For now, my goal is to continue learning and growing. I genuinely feel like I learn something new just about every day.
