This month for our Women in Technology, we are spotlighting Mary, one of our Product Administrators! Read about her story and how she started in technology.

Tell us your story on how you got into technology.

I got into technology about 10 years ago when I started working for a small Managed Service Provider (MSP). It was my first real exposure to the industry, and I immediately found myself drawn to the complexity and problem-solving aspects of tech.

Did you always know that working in technology was what you wanted to do?

I’ve always had a natural affinity for technology. As a kid, I enjoyed tinkering with computers, but I didn’t have many clear opportunities to pursue a career in tech until I landed my first job at an MSP. From that moment, I knew it was the right path for me.

How long have you been with Dataprise?

I’ve been with Dataprise for almost a year. Initially, I started as a contractor, and I officially transitioned to a full-time employee in April of this year.

Can you share a little bit about what it is that you do and what a typical day for you is like?

As a Product Administrator, I manage IT Glue, focusing on migrations from JMS to IT Glue. My day involves setting up new users, creating processes, and answering any questions team members may have about the product. I also focus on optimizing how our teams use IT Glue, ensuring that they get the most value from the platform.

What advice would you give to women considering a career in the tech industry? What do you wish you had known?

Technology is still a very male-dominated field, but that shouldn’t discourage you. My advice is to not be intimidated by the gender disparity and to ask questions freely. You’ll find that most people in the industry are eager to share their knowledge and help you succeed. I wish I had known earlier how open and collaborative the tech community can be, especially when you’re willing to learn.

Why do you think it’s important for more women to join the tech industry? How can the broader community support women in tech?

Women bring unique perspectives and experiences that are valuable to the tech industry. Having a more diverse workforce leads to more innovative ideas and solutions. The broader community can support women in tech by fostering a welcoming and inclusive culture. When we embrace diverse voices, we create an industry that thrives on collaboration and growth.

What do you think is the best part of being a woman in the tech industry?

The best part is breaking barriers and setting new standards where there haven’t been any. Being part of this change is empowering, especially knowing that I’m helping to shape the industry for future generations of women in tech.

What is it that you enjoy most about your current job at Dataprise?

What I enjoy most is the opportunity to teach others how to get the most out of IT Glue. Helping my colleagues implement and fully utilize the product to make their jobs easier is extremely rewarding.

What is the best professional advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I’ve ever received is: “Never listen to respond, always listen to understand.” It’s made a huge difference in how I approach both work and personal relationships.

Where do you see yourself going from here?

I’m aiming to earn my IT Glue Certified Expert certification and continue to deepen my understanding of the product. I’m excited to explore more of what IT Glue can offer and contribute to enhancing how our teams work with it.
