Marissa: Tell us your story on how you got into technology?
Rizelle: I got into the tech field mainly due to my dad’s influence on me growing up. He was constantly teaching our family about it and was always something that made sense to me. During college, I was focusing on fashion at the time and decided to take a tech class as part of my alternatives. I ended up liking it so much that I did a career transfer.
Marissa: Did you always know that working in technology was what you wanted to do?
Rizelle: Working in tech was not in the cards for me until I felt a need for a major change in my life. I decided to follow in the footsteps of my dad, and he showed me most of what I know.
Marissa: How long have you been with Dataprise?
Rizelle: Full time since March 2022, so roughly 5 months.
Marissa: Can you share a little bit about what it is that you do and what a typical day for you is like?
Rizelle: I provide the basic technical support for our clients at TEC. We are first in line to take phone calls and e-mails from the JMS ticketing system and provide basic technical support or triage tickets when needed.
Marissa: What advice would you give to women considering a career in the tech industry? What do you wish you had known?
Rizelle: Don’t be afraid to go big and expand your knowledge! What I wish I had known was how many resources we have to learn about the different types of technology and to be certified for them.
Marissa: Why do you think it’s important for more women to join the tech industry? How can the broader community support women in tech?
Marissa: What do you think is the best part of being a woman in the tech industry?
Rizelle: I enjoy the helpfulness and respects the team provides.
Marissa: What is it that you enjoy most about your current job at Dataprise?
Rizelle: I love the encouragement that everyone provides and the willingness of others to help me out.
Marissa: What is the best professional advice you’ve ever received?
Rizelle: The best advice I have received from not only people at Dataprise, but others was: “The Internet is your best friend”. This saying could not be more true!
Marissa: Where do you see yourself going from here?
Rizelle: I see myself climbing the ranks in Dataprise and continuing to learn more about troubleshooting systems and networks. Eventually, I would like to dive into cloud services and seeing if that fits my career.
